BIG GAME HUNTER

The big game hunter who plans his trip will get much more enjoyment from his venture than the big game hunter who throws everything in at the last moment.  Preparation allows the big game hunter to capitalize on opportunity and adapt to adverse conditions.

Preparation for the big game hunter covers all aspects of the trip from the close of the prior season to the close of the current season.

After the season is over, the serious big game hunter spends time filling out harvest reports, cleaning and caring for the rifle(s) or bow used, and caring for any other equipment used.

Pre season preparation includes physical conditioning, scouting, acquiring new equipment, and planning for the next season’s activities.  The big game hunter needs to consider transportation, location, lodging, meals, and licenses.

The big game hunter who is not in good physical condition will be severely limited on where and what type of big game to hunt, as well as the methods used.

The equipment used by a big game hunter can fall into 3 categories; great, adequate, or inadequate.  It is my belief that every big game hunter would like to have all his equipment fall into the great category, but financial constraints make us do with equipment that is merely adequate or even inadequate.

The amount and type of equipment needed will depend on the time of year the location, and the animals the big game hunter hopes to bag.

Regardless of what you are after, as a big game hunter, your equipment needs include binoculars and clothing.  You will likely need a tent, sleeping bag, and other camping gear.

Other things that need to be considered by the big game hunter are responsibilities left behind.   These include bills, time off work, home repairs, and family needs to name a few.

During the hunt, big game hunters should always be prepared for the worst, the best, and everything in between.  That includes everything from getting lost or stranded, getting caught out in weather, or bagging an animal.
